Dr Erik Andersen graduated in 1998 from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa and completed his specialist qualification in anaesthetics in 2010. He has lived, worked and trained as an anaesthetist in four different countries (South Africa, UK, NZ and Australia) and has recently been working as a paediatric anaesthetist at Perth Children’s Hospital with some sessions in adult anaesthesia at Joondalup Health campus. Erik began volunteering annually with Mercy ships in 2015 and has travelled to Madagascar, Benin and Cameroon with the company. He leaves in July for Guinea in West Africa for a 6 month field service. Erik has a wife and an 8 year old daughter, and enjoys mountain biking, adventure racing and ocean sports in his spare time.
