Dr Michelle Johnston is an Emergency Physician at Royal Perth Hospital. She has hung in there since her intern year in 1991, occasionally venturing elsewhere to see how other places do it, but always coming back to the trauma and noise of this extraordinary inner city hospital. She runs the Fellowship teaching program there, and remains passionate about clinical medicine and teaching all the species of clinical staff. Her main area of expertise is in avoiding meetings.
She is also a novelist. Her first novel, Dustfall, was released in February of 2018 by UWA Publishing, and is the story of the consequences of medical error and the legacy of asbestos mining. She writes any chance she can get, and is the literary medicine contributor to the website Life In The Fast Lane. If you see her, please talk to her about books.
